The developer of the MetaTrader trading platform, MetaQuotes, issued an official notification, informing users that installation of the next major update of the Windows operating system would invalidate previously saved passwords. This is a necessary requirement to guarantee the protection of user data, noted in Metaquotes. The developer recommends keeping all the passwords in a safe place to have access to the platform after the upgrade.
«On October 2, Microsoft officially released another major operating system update - Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809). When installing it, the configurations and encryption keys will be changed, as it happens when installing a new Windows OS.
To protect user data, the MetaTrader platform uses a binding to the operating system and hardware of the computer on which it is installed. Such protection ensures that even if the platform files are stolen, the attacker will not be able to connect to the server using previously saved accounts.
Unfortunately, the installation of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update will result in the fact that all the passwords for trading and manager accounts saved on the computer will become invalid. Please, get prepared to the situation in advance and keep the passwords in a safe place in order to have access to the platform after the upgrade.
In addition to password resetting, changing encryption keys will make it impossible to launch installed applications from the Market and will require a new activation, since all products are also tied to the operating system. We have already added one activation for each purchased product, regardless of the operating system used, as it was done earlier after the release of the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. Thus, none of the Market buyers will lose their activation after the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
Demo versions of the products will also lose activation; users will have to redownload them from the Market.»
